Ten Years On

Today is the tenth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. I happened to be in Britain on that fateful day, visiting my then girlfriend, D---a, who later became my evil ex-wife, the Black Queen. Ironically, the Black Queen and Princess Di have the same first and last letters in their first names. She yelled up to me, as I was in bed, upstairs, while she was downstairs getting some refreshments for us. "You've missed your chance, dear," she yelled. This was a reference to the fact that I had a crush on the lovely, divorced Princess.
Last night, I watched a news story on TV that reported that some American doctors, reviewing the reports of the French medical personnel who attended the crash, have concluded that Diana might have survived, had she been taken to the hospital sooner. What they failed to mention was that had Diana been a regular reader of my blog, she might not have gotten into that crash in the first place. On a related side note, I can NOT confirm rumors that Princes William and Harry are regular readers of this blog. Diana is still the most popular British royal in recent memory. A moment of tribute to "the people's Princess."

Kate No Date

This weekend, the world was shocked to learn that Prince William and Kate Middleton have broken up. So many people were speculating that the Prince and Kate would end up getting married. Could that speculation have actually led to the breakup? Kate's mother stated her career as an airline flight attendant, then became a self-made millionaire. One rumor circulating is that Prince William's blue blood friends were in the habit of quipping, just after Kate would leave a room, "doors to manual," in mocking reference to something flight attendants say sometimes.
They had been dating over four years and some scientists say that the average duration of a human, romantic relationship is four years. They met during university. Maybe they are just naturally going their separate ways. William may not be ready to think seriously of marrying. Neither may Kate. I didn't get married till I was 38. I certainly wouldn't have been ready when I was 24. But the most shocking revelation in all of this? Kate lives in the same county as I do. I wonder why I've never seen her and William, when I've been at Tesco?

On Tour In Iraq

What if they threw a war and no princes came? Well, we are in no danger of that, now. On Thursday, it was announced that Prince Harry will be going to Iraq, with his unit. The 22-year-old, who's a troop commander in charge of four Scimitar armoured vehicles, threatened to quit the army unless he was allowed to serve on the front lines. He's certainly got a lot of guts, if not the wisdom to stay out of harm's way. Young people, eh? Prince Harry will be going in as 1,600 other British troops are due to come out. Could the decision to put him there, as British forces are being reduced, be part of some greater plan?
Some members of the British public think Harry isn't actually Prince Charles' son. It's thought that Harry is actually the son of James Hewitt, who Princess Diana admitted having an affair with. These folks say that Harry looks more like Hewitt than he does like Prince Charles. Could sending Harry to Iraq be part of a deliberate plan to get rid of him? I don't think so, but it has been speculated about. We'll have to see what happens. In any event, he will certainly be a target for every insurgent in the country. Hey, I once went by the name Harry.
